Growing Past Today recognizes that every child is unique and each family structure different. We constantly assess and reassess the experiences, needs, desires, and potential of each child to offer meaningful support to improve the child’s well-being and increase the opportunity to overcome obstacles. Our acts of kindness may include special trips to the local library to afford the child personal space and quiet time; playing board games; celebrating a birthday; facilitating events to foster relationships with friends and classmates; and supporting participation in organized sports.

Growing past today provides food directly to unhoused children and their families. Twice a month volunteers collect, assemble, and deliver food from the local food bank. The food boxes are assembled based on the family’s needs, dietary restrictions, and available cooking facilities. A typical box may include items such as peanut butter, tuna, chili, crackers, canned vegetables or fruit, bread, cereal, and pastries, If available from the food bank, we also include favorites like SpaghettiOs, Lunchables, and raviolis. Weekly, volunteers provide snacks and beverages ranging from sandwiches, bagels and fresh fruit to cheese sticks, cookies, and juice or water. Temporary housing locations for this population are often in food deserts meaning we are very often serving hungry children and families facing significant food insecurity.
